Artist Statement

I knew I was going to draw a face looking in two directions. Although aware of what was happening, the picture flowed behind my thinking mind and through my hand. Sometimes I follow a plan, and sometimes my work surprises me. Often other objects will insist upon appearing changing the narrative. After some time has passed, I will study a finished piece learning more about its story and more about myself.

Using several mediums, I create representational and distorted portraits, landscapes, trees, and still life. Nature and relationships inspire me. Reappearing throughout my pieces are faces, birds, blossoms, seed pods, and pomegranates. These symbols represent humanity, new life, hope, and potential. Making art is a daily need. It is a healing journey that I want to share with others.
