Artist Statement

Gloria Cassidy

As a mixed-media artist based in Santa Clarita, California, my creative journey is intrinsically shaped by my upbringing in the vibrant landscape of Southern California. My artistic practice is characterized by a fluid integration of drawing, painting, gel printing, and collage, offering a multifaceted approach to exploring a diverse range of themes.

Presently, my focus is directed towards the development of an extensive body of collage work. Each piece is meticulously crafted, striking a balance between spontaneous artistic intuition and deliberate conceptual thought. A distinctive element of my process involves the personal alteration of papers, lending unique textures and narratives to every composition.

A defining characteristic of my art is the recurrence of personal symbols. These motifs are woven into my works, functioning as powerful conduits that connect individual experiences with universal human narratives. My creative wellspring draws deeply from the divine guidance of the Holy Spirit, the intricate beauty and restorative power of nature, the enduring strength of familial connections, and a profound reverence for the human condition in all its complexity.

Through my creations, I aspire to gently invite viewers into a space of thoughtful introspection, encouraging them to explore and connect with the rich depths of their own life stories. My symbolic language frequently features elements such as nests, pomegranates, seed pods, representations of women, trees, and birds, each imbued with layers of personal and universal significance.
